About Me
When I was a young boy, my father brought me to a figure drawing class that he was teaching. A beautiful nubile young woman sat perched on a stage. I watched the many artists from the back of the class as I was riveted with sideward glances. When my father asked me what I thought, I told him, "I want to be an artist!"
My father and uncle were expressionist painters. They were also exhibit designers who taught art and design courses at the college level. I have also taught graphic arts and painting at the college level as well as elementary school art.
Upon graduating from art school, I began my professional life working for a large commercial art studio in Troy, Michigan. I began as a penciller, drawing cars for publication. In my career, I also worked in a mannequin studio in Detroit where I repaired mannequins as well as painted their faces. From there I went on to become an art designer / director, graphic artist, and exhibit designer.
My art encompasses realism to abstraction with influences from Titian to Rembrandt and Turner to Constable, all the way to Klee and Miro and many, many more. I primarily work now with oil on linen canvas. The process involves preliminary sketches (layout design), working from photographs and/or models. From there the process moves to a finished painting.
I have been in only a few art shows as my work has mostly been sold by word of mouth. Most of my artwork is in private collections in Europe and the United States.
